Change in Definition of Florida "Dangerous Dog"

Gov Scott signed SB 722, the Saving Dogs Bill.

In the past, a dog who was involved, in any way, with dog fighting was labeled a Dangerous Dog by state law. This unfairly targeted victims of cruelty.

Effective 7/1/2011, each dog can now be evaluated based on his/her temperament.

The change in the definition is the removal of:
"1 (c) Has been used primarily or in part for the purpose of dog fighting or is a dog trained for dog fighting;"

Lee Allen Tacke found guilty and sentenced

Lee Allen Tacke abandoned (no food or water) two adult dogs and a litter of puppies still dependent on their mother. See video of momma and puppies when at the animal shelter.

Tacke pled Nolo Contendere. He was found guilty on 6/15/11 of five counts of misdemeanor Animal Cruelty. Disposition: 11 days jail time, time served. Can not have animals for one year, unless approved by Animal Services in Brevard County.

The momma dog and pups were rescued by SPCA in Titusville. The adult male was destroyed, no rescue was available for him.
